About Us

The Art of Nature

May 2017

The emphasis this term in art has been about looking and engaging with our environment, starting with Earth Day and following up with the Chelsea Flower Show. Throughout the class years, there has been a strong theme of looking to nature for inspiration.

Year 5 and 6 started the term by looking at the artwork of Andy Goldsworthy, and produced their very own mini outdoor land Art piece. Students worked in teams of two and three to discuss and negotiate their artistic visions.

The Chelsea Flower show took place on the 19th of May, which was a huge success. Students took part in making their very own miniature gardens inspired by the Chelsea Flower Show. The students had an array of natural materials to produce a garden with a shed, a washing line and various other features. The day finished by a series of presentations of their miniature gardens. Class Four judged the gardens on the following Monday and awarded the winning individual garden to the school Lilly Mae and best collaborative garden to Grace Bond and Honor Davis. Awards were handed out on the last day of term. The day was that much of a success that the students have proposed a seaside inspired miniature seaside garden theme for the end of the summer term.

Y7/8 this term have also been following a similar theme by working from a Shed/ Garden inspired still life over a series of weeks. The students worked incredibly hard to understand the process of drawing from life.

See the students at work below.
