Guest Artist Inspires Students
The "Visiting Landscape Artist" Arwyn Quick came to talk to Year 11 and 13 on October 3rd 2012. Arwyn was born in 1947 and is resident in Chesterfield. A former schoolteacher, he is now a full time artist, art full-time with a passion for the colour, form and spaciousness evoked by the Derbyshire Peak.
The purpose of this visit was for pupil's to increase their personal interest in art and design. He spent time with the students inspiring them and helping them understand art and craft in contemporary contexts. He also helped them appreciate the different roles, functions, audiences and consumers of art.
He brought many examples of his own work, which accentuates the natural forms of nature, particularly those elements caught in a play of light. Using mainly acrylics, he employs the power of colour to reinforce the immediacy of those first impressions which hold our gaze. Gradually, he has allowed the colour and forms to evolve as a means of portraying the raw forces behind the scene.
The students were able to share their own work with Arwin, and felt the day both helpful and inspiring. You can see some of our students work on our website by clicking here.
Some samples of Arwyn's work is below.
